MBBR (Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor) is an advanced biological wastewater treatment process that uses suspended biofilm carriers (bio media) as a surface for microorganisms to grow and thrive.
During operation, microorganisms form a biofilm on the surface of the carriers, which remain continuously suspended and in motion by aeration. This ensures full contact between the biofilm and the wastewater, significantly improving the removal efficiency of organic pollutants and ammonia nitrogen (NH₃-N).
Compared with the conventional activated sludge process, the MBBR system offers higher biomass concentration, greater resistance to hydraulic and organic shock loads, and a smaller installation footprint. These advantages contribute to stable treatment performance, lower maintenance requirements, and improved operational reliability.
MBBR technology is suitable for both newly constructed wastewater treatment plants and the expansion or upgrading of existing treatment facilities, providing a flexible and cost-effective solution for municipal and industrial wastewater treatment.

Wastewater first passes through screening and grit removal equipment to eliminate large debris and protect downstream equipment.
The equalization tank balances wastewater flow and pollutant concentration, reducing hydraulic fluctuations and ensuring stable biological treatment.
Inside the reactor, suspended biofilm carriers continuously circulate through aeration. Microorganisms attached to the carrier surfaces metabolize organic pollutants while simultaneously carrying out nitrification and denitrification processes.
